It's said that in the past, different Black Stones were used depending on the purpose of the equipment it was used on. One specifically for the enhancement of weapons, while the other was for armor.

Be it the fact that all black stones held the same power, or that those who well versed in black stones gained some sort of enlightenment, it's said that black stone use became indiscriminate at some point.
