A Colony of Sycrakea Barnacles

Most barnacles need to find themselves a place that's submerged during high tide and exposed during low tide, but not Sycrakea's barnacles. They seem to settle on just about any rock. Do you think the damp environment is what allows them to survive without depending on the tides?
