Bakdal Year 3975 (Accession of King Jeongmyeong), Sept 5 - Ch 2
Description
After completing the ascension ceremony, the Crown Prince descended and entered the royal carriage. Moments later, he emerged and walked towards Geunjeongmun Gate, where he came to a halt. In the center of that place, a throne was installed. As the Crown Prince ascended the throne, the officials bowed four times and shouted with revelry.
The King descended from the throne and ascended to Geunjeong Hall. He returned to his quarters, removed his ceremonial robes, and donned his mourning attire once more. Seonwoo Myeongdeok, the Prime Minister, approached and pleaded for the king to change back into his ceremonial robes. However, the king, shedding tears, prostrated himself in the antechamber and steadfastly refused.
Seonwoo Myeongdeok then petitioned the Queen, who issued a
royal edict from Gyotaejeon Hall, urging the king to proceed. Only then did the Crown Prince dismiss the attendants and walk towards the throne. Yet, he wept bitterly and refused to ascend, saying, "I once served the Heavenly Emperor here. How can I now ascend the throne with such a heavy heart?" His voice choked with emotion, rendering him unable to speak further.
