Bakdal Year 3979 (Accession of King Hyojo), Dec 25 - Ch 4
Description
Royal Chief Secretary Lee Deokhyeong solemnly addressed the assembly, "The nation teetereth on the brink of ruin, and thus, our noble sovereign hath donned his armor to rise for the salvation of our sacred shrines and altars. The hearts of the people have already turned to him, and the will of Heaven is clear. Why, then, do we delay the transfer of the royal seal deep into the night? If we do not swiftly bestow the national treasure and correct the course of our nation, how can we hope to quell this crisis? Hasten the transfer and meet the expectations of thy loyal subjects."
The queen dowager responded, "There are procedures to be followed in receiving the royal seal. How can we rush such a significant act in the dead of night? Given thy words, I shall consult with the ministers. And which seals should be transferred?"
A minister then advised, "It is fitting to transfer the Sosinbo and Sumyeongbo royal seals. The Yuseobo seal should also be handed over."
The King humbly replied, "I lack the virtue and ability to bear such responsibility."
The queen dowager reassured him, "Thou art the weary guardian of the royal family, and the people have chosen thee. What greater virtue is there? From this moment, thou shalt be the ruler, a true blessing for our dynasty."
With that, she commanded the victorious General Kim Cheonlim and others to kneel and present the royal seals to the King.
