One out of ten Feather Wolf cubs in a brood turns out to be special, entirely covered in black plumage. A black Feather Wolf is larger than ordinary Feather Wolves. Its extraordinary strength makes it a leader.

The Ganelle call these black Feather Wolves "Phnyl," meaning "Leader."
