Objective
According to the Shadow Knight NPC Knowledge at the Watchtower, the corpses lying around are those of adventurers who were trying for the Secret Box at the top of the tower. He dared you to try.
Open the Secret Box at the top of the tower;

The secret is, it's at the top.
First, look around and check out the corpses.
All from the fallen adventurers who were trying.
