Someone has already visited the trench and took whatever was there. Find Katio, an Otter captain, who has already been to the trench.
Go to Nada Island and ask about the map fragment;

There are some Otters who arrived alongside the Ratt Delegation.
They've set up base around the southern part of Oquilla's Eye.
Apparently they're trying to build a new boat of their own?
Don't you think they could have been the ones who lit up the trench?
They should still be there, southern Oquilla's Eye. You should go talk to them.
