Ignoring what the man said, the Luthraghon Elder NPC Knowledge put the humans attracted to the Lightstone of Orzeca to sleep. Let's talk to the elder.

to this cursed Lightstone in the middle of this cold valley.
That lightstone is a stone of curse that was created by
the barbaric Orzecan Dwarves by distorting Mother's Knowledge.
If you get to close to it, it will completely drain you of your happiness and will.
And losing all of your will is equivalent to death.
I understand that you came here to acquire this stone.
In fact, by the Dawn's Guide, I was told to find you in this land.
You should keep walking the same path ahead of you.
Fear not, for the earth shall support you at all times.
Although there is a price to pay to acquire a Lightstone of Orzeca,
I pray that you give up considering the usage of innocent Human lives.
The lifespan of Humans be ever so short,
thus the price to be paid is too big of a sacrifice for them.
However, coming from Hadum's domain beyond the Root Realm,
I'm used to paying such a heavy burden to handle these kinds of artifacts.
