Chapter 3: Bari Forest

There once was an unnamed forest in Beombawi Valley in the Land of the Morning Light.

The forest was so dark and sunless, it sent chills down one's spine. But that didn't keep people from visiting the forest. A kindhearted old couple, by the name of Birigongdeok, lived in the forest. The people visited them to talk to about their problems.

But even the old couple had their own problem. They were never blessed with a child.

One day, the old couple were on their way back from a short trip to Nampo from the forest. They heard a baby crying as they passed Cheongsan Institute. Below the blue bridge where the sound was coming from, they found a serpent crying like a human baby.

The couple bathed the serpent in a soy sauce jangdok when they returned to the forest, causing the serpent shed its skin and turn into a beautiful baby girl. The Birigongdeok couple named that baby, Bari.
