Chapter 2: Lurking Tragedy
Daesuk went missing one fateful day.
The family looked for him for days, and waited for even more, but he never returned. Then one night, Daeho's father heard Daesuk's voice outside the tavern. He ran out in glee, only to later be found as a corpse.
Have you heard that those that die by a tiger become Changui? When a tiger eats a person for the first time, the victim becomes a Changui called Gulgak. A Gulgak will lure out his wife in the middle of the night by licking a kitchen pot, then devouring her alive.
When a tiger eats a person a second time, that victim becomes a Changui called Yiol, which climbs to higher ground to seek out and destroys any tiger traps.
Then, what happens when a tiger eats a person for the third time...? The victim becomes a Changui called Yukhon, which will lure out their loved ones by calling their name, then devouring them. It was Daesuk, who'd become a Yukhon, that had called out to his father.
Just like that, Daeho lost both his father and brother to tiger attacks. He left Oksoon, his fiance, behind and went off to avenge his family. Hyang-goong NPC Knowledge tried to convince him otherwise, but his resolve was firm as stone. She begged Old Lady Birigongdeok NPC Knowledge for a charm to protect Daeho.
The Old Lady warned that if the entirety of Daeho's soul had not yet left to the netherworld, no one knows what would become of his body.
And contrary to Hyang-goong's prayers, Daeho never returned...
