Chapter 3: Traces of the Past
In this place, the air hung heavy with echoes of a bygone era. All around, traces reminiscent of the Ancient Stone Chamber lingered—silent witnesses to forgotten ages. Statues, countless in number, stood in solemn procession, all facing a single direction, mirroring the sentinels of the chamber itself. When I turned one statue to face another way, a scroll slipped free and fell to the ground. Upon it, these words were inscribed:
"Bow before the mighty King of Kabua! This is the chronicle of Noir, the founding king."
It spoke of the King of Kabua, who conquered the darkness—and revealed that he was none other than Noir Bartali III. If Noir had returned to the past and carved the chamber with memories of his own life, then perhaps the records within were meant to illuminate the future.
"When future knowledge combined with the rich resources of ancient times, it's no wonder civilization advanced so quickly."
Noir, it seems, split his records in two, leaving one in Balenos and the other in Edania, hoping that someone worthy would one day uncover them. Yet, I doubt Jordine NPC Knowledge's message was simply about the history of ages past. As that question lingered in my mind, I caught sight of the Shadow Knights, their ranks bristling with monsters.
Why have the Shadow Knights come to Zephyros? What strange being did they summon forth? In their final moments, they cried out Caphras NPC Knowledge's name. The more that name echoed, the more uneasy Orwen appeared. Ever since witnessing the tragic fate of Cartian NPC Knowledge, she has struggled to shake the shock. Surely, it is not a burden one can bear alone.
